Our Story
Stark Design was born out of my passion for functional design with exquisite beauty, where both function and aesthetics are equal. A long tryst with light and using it as a design material; great influence from seminal designers such as the late, great Le Corbusier and Peter Zumthor, and from those closest to me — my parents, who both had passions for looking, observing, decoding and reconstructing.
Born from Raw Materials
Stark Design emerged from a fascination with the natural character of steel, timber, and stone.
Founded in Mallorca, the studio bridges architecture, graphic design, and hands-on craft — creating furniture, lighting, and sculptural pieces that feel both timeless and futuristic.
Every surface tells a story of material, process, and place.
Giving consideration to the idea that the inanimate objects we live alongside in our daily lives can inherently affect us gives a new outlook on the considerations we make when we choose them.
The Team
Together, Nicola and Graham form a rare partnership: the conceptual visionary and the master craftsman.
Nicola shapes the narrative, the client journey, and the creative direction. Graham translates that vision into form with precision, patience, and deep material knowledge. The result is work that is both intellectually rich and physically extraordinary.
Graham brings three decades of carpentry experience to the bench. His pieces tell a history of technique, patience, and material discovery.
Graham is the “hands and craft” half of the duo. The pair collaborates with architects, developers, showrooms, and private clients to translate complex briefs into tangible, durable, inspiring realities. He is the advocate for traditional craft within a client-driven process: every request is translated through careful material choice, joinery, and finish, ensuring the final piece honours both concept and site.

With over a decade focused on teaching design principles, this isn’t a soft skill — it’s the business model.
Empowerment is the product. This collaborative, empowering approach transforms clients into co-creators, embedding their individuality into every piece.
Inspiration & Influence
Stark’s creativity draws from a repertoire of influences spanning fashion, art and technology. Stark unites function and art, past and future, where light, shadow and texture interplay to create narratives.
The methods merge traditional workshop skills with sketching and 3D software modelling. This leads to an ever-changing exploration of abstract and geometric concepts.
Drawing inspiration from classical references — paintings, architecture and graphic design — Stark plays with the tension between spaces whilst championing the magnificence of the natural materials sourced from the island.
Our Ethos
Taking time to consider and ultimately understand how light, line, materials and textures can enhance or evoke emotions can give us incredible power to enhance our wellbeing, mental state and even achieve our desired intentions in our lives.
How intentionally selected pieces we choose to have around us — “the inanimate objects” — can have a powerful impact on our wellbeing is an interesting concept I explore in my work.
Pieces could be placed to initiate a daily mantra, one that reinforces your self-belief or something personal and more specific.
The Philosophy
Rooted in chiaroscuro — a creative obsession spanning several decades. Even the name “Stark” means contrast. The treatment of light and dark, the tension between opposites, governs every creative decision.
The ethos: to promote calm and clarity, to encourage people to select the items they choose to live with, to help them curate spaces that promote wellbeing — whether bringing calm in a busy life or encouraging reflection, meditation, drive or empowerment.
What you choose to surround yourself with can have a positive and powerful impact, including the inert.
